The Meaning Behind Our Name

"Finca Vigía" stands quietly on the outskirts of Havana, Cuba. It was here that the great American writer Ernest Hemingway lived and wrote many of his masterpieces, including The Old Man and the Sea.

Born in America, Hemingway made Cuba his home. Though the two nations remain politically at odds, they have joined hands to preserve Finca Vigía, carefully safeguarding that shared memory to this day.

Okinawa, too, has passed through American rule and reversion to Japan, its many eras and cultures overlapping and intertwining to create a character all its own.

Choosing to join hands rather than take sides — the spirit that Finca Vigía still embodies today is one we see reflected in the Okinawa of now.

Cuba, the United States, and Okinawa — with that layered history in mind, we named this place "FINCA LA VIGIA OKINAWA."
